The Club: History
History of the Club
Knocklyon United Football Club is one of the largest and fastest growing soccer clubs in Ireland. The club is represented in the various leagues in Dublin by 37 boys teams, 2 senior teams and 3 girls teams. In addition the club runs a nursery for 5 year olds + to coach and teach them soccer skills and techniques. In total the club presently caters for approximately 600 children.
Knocklyon United Football Club was founded in 1984 and originally had just two teams. The club was based in Delaford Park and had two pitches. This facility was only temporary given the plans for construction of the M50 Moterway. As the club grew we were allocated pitches in Cherryfield Park and on Scholarstown Road.
The focus of Knocklyon United Football Club has always been (and will continue to be) the provision of football for children from the local community. Over the years we have enjoyed considerable success in both the Dublin District Schoolboys and EBS South Dublin League, being Champions and Runners-up on numerous occasions at various age groups as well as capturing many trophies in cup competitions.
The construction of the M50 Motorway and other road developments over the years and the building of the new Community School on Scholarstown Road has resulted in the loss to Knocklyon United Football Club for a number of playing pitches. However, on the positive side, our facilities are now of a much more permanent nature. We have retained sufficient space at Delaford Park for two 7 a side pitches, we still have a pitch at Cherryfield Park and we now have exclusive use of a site at Knocklyon Park, Ballycullen where we have two playing pitches and a pitch in Kennedy's field on the N81
Therefore from quite humble beginnings in 1984 the club is well placed going forward to meet the growing demands of the children of Knocklyon.
