Match Report From The Under 7C Team 10th Oct

Under 7c Saturday edged out by Leicester Celtic. 10th Oct ‘09

Saturday 10th Oct arrived with much anticipation for the rematch between both sides. Knocklyon were determined to improve on their first outing which resulted in a one-sided 7-0 loss back in September.

To-days match proved to be a much tighter affair. Good performances in midfield from Andrew W, Joe, Conor, Ciaran, Jack C, and Jamie helped keep possession for much of the match. Both goalkeepers, Andrew first half and then Conor applied themselves well and both impressed when outfield. David scored what turned out to be Knocklyon's only goal of the game while John, Jack L and Shane contributed plenty to this performance both in defence and going forward. Incredibly, the match finished in a 4-1 score-line to the home side.
However this doesn't tell the whole story. Indeed were it not for a lot of help from the woodwork (Knocklyon hit the post from a penalty and hit the bar soon after) this result could have been turned on its head.

Joe picked up the team player of the week for his effort both in two training sessions in mid-week and his tireless work in midfield throughout the game to-day.

The score-line flattered the home-side and very sportingly the Leicester manager came over to the deflated Knocklyon team after the match to say that his Leicester team felt very lucky to win this game to-day and that the Knocklyon lads deserved a few more goals to-day. Well done to Leicester and congrats to them for a fine start to their U-7 team this year.

Good luck next time to our brave U-7's.
